When smoke-drenched riffs roll in like a black storm
Some bands play music that defines them. Acid Row, however, create an atmosphere that slowly consumes a person — like thick smoke in a dim club right before dawn.
They are a Czech stoner doom band from Prague, known for a dense blend of stoner rock, doom, punk, and psychedelia. Since their formation in 2011, when they were still known as Project 76, they have built a strong reputation through their energetic sound, dark aesthetic, and intense live shows across Europe.
Their sound does not feel like a simple combination of guitars, drums, and bass. It feels more like a slow black wave rolling through the space, vibrating in your chest and leaving a strange unease behind. The riffs are heavy, dirty, and hypnotic. Every tone sounds as if it was born deep underground — in a place where psychedelia merges with nihilism and noise stops being just sound.
And it is with this aura that Acid Row return with their new album Magic.
An album that does not feel like a regular record.
More like a descent into a dark rabbit hole with no bottom.
For years, the Prague stoner doom formation has belonged among the most distinctive names on the Czech heavy underground scene. Their shows are known for leaving nothing calm behind — only sweat-soaked walls, the smell of alcohol, feedback echoing in your head, and the feeling that reality briefly slipped away.
This is exactly why Acid Row have earned respect far beyond the club scene. Their previous record Poisoned Mind (2024) won the Anděl Award in the Rock category, confirming their place among the strongest acts in the contemporary heavy scene. They have shared stages with bands such as Clutch, Bongzilla, Red Fang, and Stoned Jesus, yet they have always kept their own identity — slow, dirty, and absolutely uncompromising.
Magic goes even further.
The sound is thicker, darker, and far more consuming. The riffs repeat like ritual mantras, the drums sound like distant thunder rolling in, and the entire album feels like a soundtrack to the end of something that can no longer be saved.
There is a strange beauty in it.
But also chaos.
And the feeling that something sinister hides beneath every layer of sound.
Thematically, the album dives into the illusion of power, the collapse of faith, and magic as both deception and instrument of control. This time, Acid Row offer no escape and no light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, they open the door to a world where a person slowly gets lost inside their own thoughts.
And when those smoke-drenched riffs finally hit full force, it feels as if the sky above begins to crack open into blackness.
The album release show for Magic will take place on May 16 aboard Cargo Gallery on the Prague riverfront. A venue perfectly aligned with the band's aesthetic — an enclosed space filled with lights, smoke, and vibrations, where music will not simply be played.
It will roll through the room like a black storm.
Slowly.
Heavily.
Unstoppably.
