Novelization: stories when pain sounds louder than silence

Some bands are built on technique, others on brutality. Novelization exist somewhere in between – in a space where death metal heaviness meets black metal atmosphere and emotion that sounds just as intense as the riffs themselves. Their music is not only about aggression, but also about tension, melancholy, and contrast that turns chaos into something unexpectedly beautiful.

The sound of Novelization draws from a wide range of influences, but its core remains firmly rooted in old-school metal. The band openly acknowledges strong inspiration from legends such as Death, while naturally incorporating elements of modern atmospheric and post-black metal into their work. The result is music that cannot be easily categorized, and that is exactly where its strength lies.

If they had to describe their music through emotions, they put it very directly:

"Feelings that best describe our music are pain, anger and beauty. Most of our work is born from these emotions and everything behind them." — Novelization

These opposites form their musical identity. Most songs emerge from personal emotions and internal tension, which are then translated into layered compositions.

The songwriting process usually begins at home, where the frontman creates the basic structure before bringing it to rehearsal. There, the songs take their final shape – the guitarist refines riffs, the bass adds character, and the drummer contributes his own approach. Interestingly, the drummer is the only member not strictly rooted in metal, drawing instead from grunge, which adds a less predictable rhythmic character to their sound.

Novelization do not express their rebellion through poses or excess. Their resistance is aimed at the modern music industry, which they feel often pushes musicians into the role of influencers rather than true creators. Because of this, the band remains focused on the music itself and refuses to adapt to algorithm-driven expectations.

Live performances are their natural outlet – a place where music stops being a composition and becomes physical energy. Playing live is both emotional release and a way of connecting with the audience. One particularly strong memory is their show at Willemeen in Arnhem, where the crowd created, in their words, absolute chaos and one of the best atmospheres they have ever experienced.

They recommend tracking the song "Dark Sky," which they consider the best representation of their direction. Although it is not yet available on streaming platforms, it can be found through a live recording on their YouTube channel.

The band is currently working on their debut album, and after winning the Dutch round of the Wacken Metal Battle, their future is starting to take shape on a larger scale. Festivals, bigger stages, and new touring opportunities no longer feel like distant visions, but a realistic next step.

Novelization are not changing direction. They do not need to adapt or search for easier paths. They create music from unrest, pain, and beauty – born exactly where you would least expect it. And that is precisely why they sound so convincing.
