Marko from RIFF RIOT ROCKERS BLOG: Why did he refuse to play in a jazz band?
It is the year 2011. At that time, no one could have known that a former floorball player from Ružomberok would one day become someone who creates his own musical space. But even then, his story had already begun to take shape — a story of decisions, a passion for music, and a quiet refusal to follow paths that simply didn't feel right.
At the age of eight, he received an offer many would consider a huge opportunity — to play in a jazz band in Piešťany. Jazz, precise, technical, full of improvisation. But not everyone hears music the same way. While for some jazz represents the peak of musical expression, for him even at that age something stronger already existed: heavy music. Energy that cannot be tamed.
Even as a child, he gravitated toward genres that would later define his taste — bands like Slipknot and later Sleep Token became deeply meaningful to him. So he turned jazz down. Not out of immaturity, but because even then he already knew what resonated with him.
In his teenage years (around 13–14), the idea of forming his own band emerged. It was to be called Hellheim Dark Symphony — a typical teenage dream many young people know well, when music is constantly playing in the mind and everything still feels possible.
The musical vision was far from simple or confined to a single genre. The band was meant to be an experimental blend of different worlds — dark atmosphere and cello-driven sounds in the style of Apocalyptica, aggressive energy and chaos inspired by Slipknot, and groovy, melodic heaviness reminiscent of Volbeat. The result was supposed to balance emotion, anger, and cinematic epicness — something between metal, soundtrack, and raw personal expression.
Reality, however, was different. Perhaps a bit of laziness, perhaps the lack of the right moment, perhaps simply the fact that not every idea at that age survives first contact with the real world. Hellheim Dark Symphony never actually came to life.

But something else did emerge. Ideas remained, creativity remained, and so did the need to express himself in a way beyond ordinary means. And maybe that was the real beginning — not a band, but a way of blending sound, emotion, and an inner world in his mind.
In high school, he began writing his own lyrics. Words became his instrument. And through them, he gradually opened the door to something bigger — a world where music is not only about listening, but also about expression.
Later came an academic chapter as well: studying History and Geography teaching in Ružomberok. A combination of the past and space, facts and stories. But life is not linear. A few weeks ago, he decided to pause his studies — this time not due to indecision, but because of health reasons. And sometimes, those are the most important decisions of all.

Why RIFF RIOT ROCKERS?
The real turning point came much later. Summer 2025. Two young people are driving home after a demanding 15-hour shift. Exhaustion, silence, a car ride. On the radio, the song Heavy Metal by Bring Me The Horizon begins to play. At first glance, an ordinary moment. But that was when an idea was born — to create something. Something personal. Something that would carry the emotion music can evoke, but also extend it further. The original plan was simple: an internet radio. A space without boundaries where rock and metal of all shades could be played — from new bands to legends.
"RIFF RIOT ROCKERS is not just an ordinary project. It is an echo of a car ride that never fully ended. A continuation of a moment that gave birth to something larger than the original idea. At the same time, it is a quiet tribute to my late grandfather, a man who is present in all of this more than it may seem. It is a space where music does not end after the first listen or the last chord. Alongside articles, a playlist was also created — a small radio that you can return to anytime. Available on Spotify, filled with energy, emotion, and genre diversity. Exactly as it was meant to be from the very beginning. That is where the story began. A story about how rejection is sometimes not an ending, but a quiet beginning of the right path. How one ordinary evening, one song, and one unclear idea can grow into something far greater than its origin. And perhaps most of all, a story about how rock and metal were never just music genres. They are memories, emotions, chaos, freedom, and moments that stay with a person long after the music fades." — Marko
