INÝMI SLOVAMI: Slovak pop-rock that speaks its own language

If you were more familiar with Theory of a Deadman, you might pause for a moment during your first listen and feel a similar kind of energy or atmosphere in this band's music. But this story is not about the Canadian rock formation. This story belongs to INÝMI SLOVAMI, a Slovak band steadily building its own identity on the local music scene.

The band was founded by vocalist and lyricist Lukáš, who originally performed together with producer and guitarist Patrik Laki as the acoustic duo Lupa. After a year of creating music together, the project naturally evolved into a full band, giving birth to INÝMI SLOVAMI. Today, the lineup consists of five members — alongside Lukáš and Patrik, there are bassist Noro Mrava, keyboardist Matúš Kasáš, and drummer Teo Pongó. They are all connected through Bratislava and its surroundings, but most importantly through a shared vision of creating music with both substance and ambition.

Their first major step came with the debut EP Vždy sa máš kam vrátiť, released in May 2022. Thanks to it, the band opened doors to mainstream media, appearing on Fun Radio and Teleráno, while also gaining their first significant live experience. Their song Za maskou is now approaching 50,000 streams and has become their most successful track to date.

Musically, the band describes their style as "an international sound in Slovak." Patrik Laki's production draws inspiration from artists and bands such as Bleachers, Inhaler, Sam Fender, and The 1975, which is reflected in their modern pop-rock production focused on melody, atmosphere, and detail. Lyrically, Lukáš aims to write songs that are neither superficial nor unnecessarily complicated — tracks that remain accessible while still carrying meaning.

Their music balances somewhere between alternative and mainstream. It is neither dirty underground rock nor shallow radio-friendly pop. INÝMI SLOVAMI aim to create music capable of reaching different generations while offering both reflection and comfort.

The creative process mainly revolves around Lukáš and Patrik. Sometimes a song begins with a simple idea, a few chords, and lyrics; other times Lukáš writes directly into a prepared production. They both describe songwriting itself as the most rewarding part of being in the band.

For them, live shows are primarily about connecting with the audience. It's not just about performing songs — it's about building a community of people who find themselves in the band's lyrics and music. According to the band, the moment when the crowd sings the lyrics back to them is irreplaceable.

Right now, the band is entering a new chapter with their debut album Komu uveríš, set for release on May 29, 2026. They describe the album as their "white" project — compared to their darker debut EP, it brings more hope, romance, playfulness, and belief in brighter days ahead. The album includes energetic tracks like Celý život, featuring Pokyman from Medial Banana, as well as more emotional songs such as Hlavolam and Ako ďaleko.

The band openly admits that their ambitions are high. They want to become one of the major names on the Czech-Slovak music scene and leave a lasting mark on its history. Whether they succeed, only time will tell — but one thing is certain: they definitely do not lack passion, vision, or courage.

At the moment, INÝMI SLOVAMI feel like a band with a clear direction, a distinct sound, and a strong need to say things honestly — just in slightly different words.
