HEDNABLOD: The blood of ancestors, the fire of freedom and the Nordic darkness
In the black metal scene, a new underground project is emerging, but few projects from the very beginning feel as clearly defined as Hednablod. Even the name itself suggests that this is not just about music, but about a deeper connection to identity, spirituality, and the heritage of the North. Behind the project stands a musician who decided to take full control of his creative vision and shape it without compromise.
The creation of Hednablod was not born from a romantic idea of a band, but from frustration.

"I was tired of unreliable bandmates and unfair compromises. Hednablod is absolute freedom and revenge. I want to connect with people through music and build a strong and loyal community," he admits openly.
It was precisely this need for complete creative freedom that led him to become a one-man project. However, the door to a full lineup remains open — if the right people appear, Hednablod may eventually grow into a full band.
Musically, the project moves on the boundary between melodic black metal and folk elements, drawing mainly from the Swedish and Finnish scenes. Its sound carries the cold melancholy of the North, but also aggression and pagan spirituality. As main influences, he cites bands such as Sargeist, Dissection, and Isengard.
But Hednablod is not just a musical experiment. Its vision is precise and clear: to create pagan music that honors Swedish and Finnish ancestors and conveys a "primitive northern essence" through folk and black metal. It is an attempt to connect music with spirituality and spread this message among pagans around the world.
"Every genre that has influenced you, even those seemingly unrelated, is important in creating something unique," he says.
This perspective has changed his approach to music the most. He does not hesitate to acknowledge even unexpected influences — the band that originally led him to pick up a guitar was actually System of a Down.
Among the songs he is most proud of so far is "Nattens Förpestade Vingar," which he describes as a combination of strong riffs and a powerful vocal performance. However, the track he considers most representative of the project is "Rået," which he believes best captures Hednablod's identity — melodic black metal enriched with folk elements.
Interestingly, he does not describe his music through a specific emotion, but through the word hiraeth — a melancholic longing for a home or something lost that may never have even existed. This feeling perfectly reflects the atmosphere he aims to capture in his work.
His songwriting process is intuitive and depends on mood. When thoughts are flowing, music emerges naturally. He finds inspiration while listening to music, but especially during long walks in the forest and connecting with nature. This relationship with the natural world is deeply embedded in the project's identity.
Although Hednablod is still at the beginning, its ambitions are far-reaching. The goal is not only respect in the underground scene, but eventually the status of a fully established band.
Fans also have something to look forward to — the debut album is on the way and, according to the creator, will be released this summer. And while he cannot yet say exactly how Hednablod's sound will evolve, he hints that more significant changes may come in the future.
In a time when much of modern music production is shaped by trends and algorithms, Hednablod feels like a return to something rawer, more personal, and more authentic. Blood of ancestors, forest spirituality, and uncompromising black metal — this is the formula with which the project carves its own path through darkness.
