Harley: From One Chord to Eternity – a Story You Feel Before You Hear It

"In my opinion, it is important to do what a person enjoys, to do it honestly, without calculation, and to persevere. For me, music is not a race, but a feeling. When I was younger, I was afraid that this feeling might one day fade or weaken, but today I know that I look forward to every concert and enjoy it even more. I consider it an incredible privilege that we can still play and that it still brings joy both to us and to our fans," Tonda Rauer told us.

One of my dreams was to interview bands like Lucie or Harlej, the ones I grew up listening to myself. That dream has partially come true, and it is a great honor for me.

When Czech rock is mentioned, many bands immediately come to mind that are unique in their own way. Among them, Harlej holds a firm place — a band that was almost "accidentally" formed, but gradually worked its way up to a stable sound and a level of quality it has maintained to this day. Their music appeals to a wide audience across generations and is supported by a strong fan base and years of stage experience. Yet behind this story there is no calculation or plan, but above all a pure feeling for music. We managed to do a short interview with Tonda Rauer, guitarist and one of the long-standing members of Harlej.

Everything began with a single moment. One concert, one energy, one evening at Prague's Lucerna — and a decision that could no longer be taken back. The desire to stand on stage, pick up a guitar, and let the music speak for itself. Since then, line-ups have changed and time has moved on, but the essence has remained. Today, Harlej is a band that has evolved, yet still walks the path it naturally set out on — without pretence.

Their music was never born from big plans. It grew quietly, during hours spent with a guitar, when the first original riffs began to emerge from practice sessions. Not ambition, but joy was the first impulse. And that joy has remained to this day — perhaps even stronger than at the beginning.

Interestingly, despite their long career, the band has kept its humility. They take music more seriously today than before, but not in the sense of pressure — rather as a commitment to their fans. Every concert is a reason for gratitude, not routine. The fear that enthusiasm might fade over time has not come true. On the contrary, it grows with every performance.

The musical chemistry between members is not created at a table or through compromises. It is something that either exists or it doesn't. In the case of Harlej, it comes naturally — which is why their music feels honest and authentic. Even in disagreements, a simple rule applies: respect for the author of the song and the emotion with which it was created.

Their songs, such as "Strážní andělé" or "Až tady jednou nebudu," carry a personal signature and an inner world that cannot be imitated. They are not just songs — they are statements. And perhaps that is why they have found their way to so many people.

Harlej has never treated music as a race. They do not chase trends or feel the need to prove their worth. Their philosophy is simple: do things honestly, with heart, and endure. In a time when success is often measured in numbers, this approach feels almost refreshing.

And dreams? They have not disappeared. They are perhaps no longer about sold-out stadiums, but about moments — like standing somewhere on a beach, plugging in a huge guitar rig, and playing a single chord so loud that it is swallowed by the entire horizon. Simple, perhaps, but all the more powerful.

The story of Harlej is proof that even "chance" can grow into something lasting. All it takes is passion, honesty, and the will not to give up. And perhaps that is why their music is still alive — not only on stages, but also in the people who listen to it.
