“Every single time it was absolutely brutal.” — Berhelven and the journey from doom-filled shadows into death metal chaos
The Czech underground scene keeps giving birth to bands that do far more than just play music — they build entire worlds around their sound. One of those bands is Berhelven, a death metal force from Prague formed in spring 2024 that is already beginning to shake the underground with serious intensity.
Fronted by the powerful vocals of Anička, backed by guitarist David from Status Praesents, bassist Naty, and drummer Adam from Ballad of Epona, the four-piece sounds far more experienced than their short existence would suggest.
But Berhelven didn't begin as a pure death metal band. Their early sound leaned heavily into gothic doom atmospheres — darker, slower, and emotionally dense. Over time, however, the band became increasingly drawn toward harsher, more technical territory, eventually evolving into the aggressive and chaotic entity they are today.
Their music carries the crushing weight of modern death metal alongside the technical brutality of bands such as Suffocation, Meshuggah, and Cryptopsy. Influences from Defeated Sanity, Deaden, and Stabbing can also be felt throughout their sound — yet Berhelven never comes across as a copy of anyone else. Their songs hit like concrete collapsing from above: technical passages twist through filthy riffs while the atmosphere shifts from suffocating darkness to explosive violence within seconds.
According to the band, their track Corpsick best represents who they are today. It marks the turning point where Berhelven fully embraced their new direction and the sound they intend to continue developing in the future. If there's one track new listeners should start with, it's this one.
Still, the true power of Berhelven reveals itself live on stage. The band openly admits that performing is what fulfills them the most. It's not just about playing songs — it's about the moment when the energy between the band and the crowd merges into one overwhelming wave of noise, sweat, and emotion.

"Every single time it was absolutely brutal." — a simple sentence that somehow captures everything Berhelven stands for. The sweat dripping from underground clubs, the pressure of speakers shaking your chest, the chaos beneath the stage, and that strange feeling when music transforms into pure emotional destruction for a few unforgettable minutes.
That is where Berhelven truly comes alive — between blinding lights, deafening noise, and crowds breathing in sync with every crushing riff. Every concert feels less like a performance and more like a collision of technical brutality and raw human energy. Whether it's their hometown Prague, Riotzone, or their first trip to Ostrava, one thing always remains the same: the intensity people carry home long after the final drum hit fades away.
And the future? It sounds even louder. Right now, Berhelven are focused on writing new material with one major goal in mind — releasing their first full-length studio album. They don't just want more songs. They want to refine their own sound, push themselves technically, experiment with new ideas, and eventually bring their music onto bigger stages — perhaps even far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.
Berhelven doesn't feel like a band trying to fit into the scene. They feel like a band determined to build a scene of their own. And judging by the energy surrounding them, this is only the beginning.
