Conviction: Raw energy from Spiš that breaks down boundaries

29/04/2026

In the Slovak underground scene, more and more new names have been emerging in recent years, and the Slovak band Conviction is one of them, coming from Spišská Nová Ves and its surroundings. Although they have only been active since 2022, their approach to music and their overall sound already suggest that we will definitely be hearing more from them in the future.

The band currently operates as a three-piece lineup that has gone through a few minor lineup changes. It consists of Braňo on vocals, Erik on guitar, and Ďoďo on drums. Despite being only a trio, their music feels full, heavy, and at times almost raw and "angry," as they themselves described it.

Their sound is a combination of several heavy genres — beatdown hardcore, deathcore, and metalcore. The result is an explosive mix built primarily on energy, aggression, and strong emotions. If they had to describe their music as a feeling, it would be pure anger and frustration with the world. These emotions are directly reflected in their songs, where fast passages are mixed with heavy breakdowns and unexpected tempo changes.

The members' musical roots go back to bands like Children of Bodom and Slipknot, which shaped them in their early days. Today, however, they are more influenced by modern bands such as Knocked Loose and Bodysnatcher, who, in their view, are pushing the boundaries of modern metal. Even though they draw inspiration from newer trends, they still maintain respect for the music they grew up with.

An interesting aspect is their songwriting process, which they themselves describe as chaos — but one that works perfectly for them. Most songs are created spontaneously during jam sessions, where riffs, drums, and overall structures gradually take shape. Each member also brings a different musical perspective into the band. For example, Ďoďo listens not only to metal but also to black and doom metal, while Braňo has experience with rap and trap. This diversity naturally influences their music.

If someone wants to start with their music, the band strongly recommends the track "Blinded." It is their first released song, which also came out with a music video on the Hardcore Worldwide channel. According to them, this track best represents their style because it contains everything — speed, heaviness, powerful breakdowns, and dynamic changes.

Interestingly, the band has not played a live show yet. However, that is expected to change soon, as they plan to perform wherever they get the opportunity. They see live performances as a way to release emotions, let out frustration, and transfer that energy to the audience. Energy is a key element for them — they want fans to feel it just as intensely as they do.

At the moment, they have four singles released and three more already prepared. They are continuously working on new material and also plan to release a small EP in the future. Their goal is not to radically change their sound, but rather to refine and gradually evolve it.

Looking ahead, their vision is simple — play as many shows as possible, stand on stages, and keep creating music. Conviction is a band that is still in its early stages, but already has a clear direction, a strong identity, and an energy that is clearly felt from the very beginning.
