“A Friendly Project That Wants to Fill the Empty Post-Hardcore Gap on the CZ/SK Scene” - Heartache Avenue

14/05/2026

Every now and then, a band appears on the Czech and Slovak alternative scene that doesn't feel like a calculated project, but rather a natural connection between people united by the same passion. That is exactly the impression given by Heartache Avenue — a four-piece band from Přerov building their sound on melancholic atmosphere, raw emotion, and heavy post-hardcore energy.

The band consists of vocalist Tomáš Holínka, guitarist Vojtěch Skotnica, bassist Jan Bednář, and drummer Dominik Černoch. Even though they have not been playing together for very long, they already carry a clear identity. Without unnecessary ego or artificial image-building, they focus mainly on music, energy, and the natural chemistry between them.

Their sound thrives on contrast. Atmospheric ambient textures and melodic clean choruses blend with uncompromising hardcore passages and crushing metalcore breakdowns. But Heartache Avenue are not only about heaviness. Their music also carries melancholy, nature-inspired emotions, and a certain sense of hope — feelings that can be heard in almost every track they create.

The band was strongly influenced by the melodic post-hardcore wave of the early 2010s. Inspirations include bands such as Underoath, The Amity Affliction, and Heart in Hand. However, this is not simply nostalgia or imitation. Heartache Avenue aim to bring the atmosphere of that era into a modern form while shaping it with their own identity.

Their songwriting process is equally interesting. Most songs begin as demo recordings created by drummer Dominik, which the band later develops together during rehearsals. Frontman Tomáš then completes the vocal melodies and lyrics. The result is a carefully crafted sound that the band continues to refine and evolve on their own terms.

The song they consider the most important is "Turning off the Sun." According to the band, this track marked the true beginning of Heartache Avenue and still represents the spark that started everything.

One of the band's greatest strengths is authenticity. They openly admit that each member has a different personality, making communication and compromise essential to keeping the band moving forward. Perhaps that is exactly why their music feels so genuine — everything is built on natural energy and shared enthusiasm.

They have already experienced several memorable live moments, including performances at Emo Night in Prague's Rock Café and at Art Klub in Opava. According to the band, every show has a different atmosphere, but their main goal always remains the same: to let the energy flow naturally.

Heartache Avenue are currently preparing two new singles. One of them will feature a music video filmed at the Mighty Sounds festival, while the second will focus heavily on natural themes and water imagery. When speaking about the future, the band remains humble but determined — they want to gradually build their name on the Czech and Slovak scene and push toward larger festival stages. Their dream destination? Rock for People.

Heartache Avenue prove that there is still room on the local scene for honest post-hardcore filled with emotion, atmosphere, and powerful choruses. And if they maintain the same passion that already defines them today, their name may soon become impossible to ignore on the CZ/SK alternative scene.
